I think that in the end, as love is love between two honest people, and it will REMAIN love as long as its two honest people, no matter where you meet. When I say honest, I mean people who don't wear masks, people who don't lie about who they are or what they've done. If two peopel are honest with eachother, then they can find something to love thats REAL. It's a lil confusing, I know, but it's hard to explain...

I guess what I'm saying is that no matter where you meet, you can be in love, just as long as your in love with a real person. But I wouldn't recommend going off and "Getting busy" online ^.~ Then again, you only get spyware and viruses from the net.. Not diseases.. *Laugh*

"...so, describe yourself sweety..."

"Well, I'm quite tall, big breasts and thin legs, green eyes and a provoking smile..."

"uuuuuuhhh, nice, go on!"

"...I've got a sexy, warm voice..."

"I like that...your shining knight wants to know more about you, so don't stop"

"oh and I forgot what's most important! I've got something in common with the Baywatch girls"

"Hehe. I got you there, my sweet gothic princess. Breasts?"

"No. Algae."

There is no such thing as love, it's all a figment of everyones imagination, only took me 30 years to figure that one out.

The problem with most online relationships, in my opinion, (And I'm not talking about ones with a horny male interested in cybering, and whoever, male or female), comes in the form of confusion over just what love is.

With an online relationship, friendship or otherwise, you've really only got shared interests and communication. It's a really different experience from all the artifical nuances you get in normal dating. To me, it's a really pure relationship (well, when not polluted by deception, anyway.).

Now, here's the thing though-
Is a relationship meant to be just friends? Or is it destined to be something more?
Many people are in love with being in love. It's not that they don't like the other person, it's the act of merely being in that kind of relationship that they enjoy. Because of this, when the time actually comes to progress, they can't, and the relationship stagnates.
Far too often, the people involved have a crush, and after a while, it just gets old.

When someone you know has been in multiple online relationships and professes their true love again and again, you can probably be sure that they're just one of the aforementioned.

On the other hand, the other kind of relationship you can share is a true friendship. The kind of feeling where you can actually be concerned for a person when you're not sitting at the computer talking to them. To have a genuine interest in their life and current status, to honestly wish for good fortune to them. In that situation, you're like childhood friends that grew up together but seperated who still keep in touch. It's a really nice friendship, because you know if you're ever in a jam, or experiencing something wonderful, you can share it with them.
If you ever meet up with those people, it'll be when they're travelling, or one of you is getting married, or if you're both of a similar age, such as college, renting an apartment with a roomate moving out, a joking offer of letting the other person take the vacant spot can become an actuality.

When you've got a friend like that, it's really easy to see how in another situation, it could be something more. And also pretty easy to see how it could be nothing more.

If you enjoy spending time with someone, the pay no mind to what anyone else says, just do it. Even if it's only online, it never has to go anywhere else. It's not a crime for passion to fade, although if you're already married, it's a bit late. And it always helps if you're prepared to settle with 'just friends'. After all, if you could never handle being, 'just friends', I don't see how could ever handle marriage when it gets a bit rocky, and you're certainly not lovers anymore.

But, all of the above is of course just my own opinion. I have a small handful of people that I care about as much as I do any of the friends I have in my local area that I've known since childhood that I met online, and I wouldn't trade them for the world.

I dont mean to sound harsh, but thats just you. Just because you are unhappy doesn't mean I'm not, yaknow? I'm EXTREMELY happy in my relationship and will be. The person I love is honest and loves me for who I am as do I love her for who she really is.

I'm sorry you feel lonely, but don't say that there is no such thing as love... Thats not the case for everyone.

Unhappy, lonely, I never said I felt lonely and I certainly didn't say I was unhappy, so don't put words in my mouth that aren't there, it's dangerous to read between the lines. I was in love once, but never again, it no longer exists for me. Does that make it more clear, or am I not entitled to my opinion, just as you and the others are entitled to yours/theirs opinions.

I've been married for 14 years, have 3 wonderful children, I love them, but not the type of love you're refering to. It all comes down to rejection, I don't need it, I hate it, and the easiest way to avoid it is to close your heart to the outside world. As for love, it comes in many different degrees and forms, the one you talk about I don't believe exists anymore and nothing or no one will change my mind.

I'm glad you found it, more power to you, for me it's over; I had friend tell me that I already had closed my heart after I told her I was going to close it, that sort of caught me off guard as I don't think I had done that already, but I'll find out when we talk about it, but that is way off topic. Now I've given TMI.

I played a female toon in FFXI. There was this one guy that was so in love with my monk/theif character. Ive made it very clear to him that i was a dude trapped in a female toons body but he still wanted to get our characters married in the game. (Which they have whole serimonies and clothes/rings for that crap too) I was really weirded out to say the least.

It's the tech-age - meeting people via electronic methods will become more and more common.

Notice I said meeting. It's one thing to chat a while, think you have a lot in common/get along and then want to meet/do meet to see what may happen - and it's another thing entirely to chat for 2 years while sequestered away in your sunless little cyber-den, never meeting during all that time, and claim you have true love.

EDIT - but as far as in-game fictional/character romance/fascination...why not...as long it's not creepy stalkerish or harassment of another etc. Just roleplayin' fun.

Why thank you, but everyone needs to learn a couple of things, first off, learn to read between the lines, and second, most of what I said is half truths. Gather from that what you will, but I won't explain it here, if you want to know, just PM me.

Why it can actually be better to meet someone special online, instead of in a bar?

You get to TALK with them. Alot. So you actually know them more than people who meet in a bar do.

I'm not saying everyone should be dating people they meet in online games, but since so many people have met great friends and significant others that way, you cannot just call it BS either.

I think the biggest problem with getting into any relationship, espically online ones is a matter of honesty and trust. I'm pretty jaded myself so I'm not sure if I'm ready to try an online one. I think if you meet the right person online, the relationship would be great, but the trick is meeting the correct person.

Hey Gear853 I know what your going through I met this guy while playing. We talked for a long time then he whated me to send him a pic... really stupid idea. Now he never leaves me alone and I don't want to put him in my ignore list incase he feels bad about being rejected or something. So I just pretend I'm offline now besides the only people I need to talk to are in my guild.
